Issue with tooltips
Issue with tooltips
I'm trying to get deeper into Voltage today and when I hover my mouse over cv jacks and various things like oscillator's waveforms etc. I am not getting the tooltip popups that teach further info and am getting a little confused with the differences between the Nord Modular's and Voltage Modular this afternoon. Could you tell me if it's a glitch that i can't learn about the module details by hovering my mouse? I need that feature to simplify learning.

Make sure tooltips are turned on in your Settings.

Re: Issue with tooltips
I messaged Cherry Audio support about it. Tooltips are already turned on. I was having trouble learning the modules but simplified what I made and now I'm getting more of a knack for Voltage just like I more easily got a knack for the Nord Modular. It would be a real bonus to somehow have tooltips function to learn more easily. Any idea what's wrong if just using the checkbox isn't enough when I hover my cursor over the functions?

Re: Issue with tooltips
What, exactly, are you hovering over that isn't producing ToolTips? A lot of ToolTips other than the basic stuff would be up to the module developers to implement. I'm not too aware of many modules that have instructional ToolTips.

Re: Issue with tooltips
I didn't know individual modules didn't have tooltips for things like CV inputs and all the other jacks and the switches & knobs and so on. Some apps & plugins give a basic description of the functions when you hover the mouse. It seems pointless in ways it's just that Voltage gets a little confusing for me because some of the modules are designed in a more confusing way than standard.UrbanCyborg wrote: ↑Fri Aug 26, 2022 7:12 am What, exactly, are you hovering over that isn't producing ToolTips? Re: Issue with tooltips
Generally tooltips in VM are only used to give an exact readout of knob values.
One thing you might find useful is right clicking on a blank part of a module and selecting Module Help. Providing you are online this takes you to a webpage with details about how a module works.

First of all, Welcome! I predict that the more you use Voltage Modular, the more fluency you will develop.SA2K wrote: ↑Thu Aug 25, 2022 10:41 pm I'm trying to get deeper into Voltage today and when I hover my mouse over cv jacks and various things like oscillator's waveforms etc. I am not getting the tooltip popups that teach further info and am getting a little confused with the differences between the Nord Modular's and Voltage Modular this afternoon. It sounds like you have a preconceived idea that tooltips are for teaching how things work. I have no idea how Nord Modular uses tool tips, but perhaps that is the source of your preconceived idea.
As other have noted, Voltage Modular has a number teaching mechanisms such as "Module Help," "About," documentation and website links, etc. Try right-clicking on the top area of any module. Clicking and right-clicking on other areas of modules often bring up context options.
As other have noted, for things like knobs and sliders, the hover tooltip (if enabled) usually provides information about the function/name of something and the current value. For cables (depending on which type it is) and your settings, hovering will make the connection more visible than when not being hovered over.
Its probably a good idea when working with anything new or unfamiliar to you, to abandoned preconceived ideas that you might have gotten from someplace else and look for information about how the new or unfamiliar object works.

According to the manual:
Tooltips are those handy little bits of text that pop up when hovering over a control or jack.
Show Tooltips On Any Control Change:
--Displays parameter tooltips/values next to controls any time a control is changed,
i.e. if a control is moved via an assigned MIDI controller or a Perform panel knob, etc.
Show Control Tooltips Under Mouse
--Displays parameter tooltips/values when the mouse is hovered over a control
or as a control is moved with mouse clicked.
The Tooltip Delay setting defines how long you must hover before the tooltip pops up.

According to Google’s Material Design guidelines:
“Tooltips are text labels that appear when the user hovers over, focuses on, or touches an element.
Tooltips identify an element when they are activated. They may contain brief helper text about its function. For example, they may contain text information about actionable icons.
Tooltip labels do not receive input focus.”
