VM2500 Preset Voltage Module 1026 as Graphical Waveshaper

Post by utdgrant »

I built this patch to try to create a sort of Buchla 132 Waveform Synthesizer.

I used the Preset Voltage Module 1026 from VM2500 to generate 8 user-specified voltage levels for every cycle of the input rising-sawtooth wave. By altering the channel 1 output pots (green), you can generate a sort of blocky 'digital' waveform.

I then made the sawtooth input waveform amplitude-modulated. This gave the sound a sort of swept PWM, or hard-sync, character to it.

There is absolutely no filtering on the output, so it can get gritty and alias-y at higher sweep settings and higher pitches. It has a bit of an early digital synth feel to it as a result, which may hold some charm.

You can use the second channel of the 1026 (silver pots) to create a second waveform if you want to experiment further with cross-fading / vector synthesis.

As Darth Vader once said, "Impressive. Most impressive." Really.
