As utdgrant said, check out the Remote Control module. Here's two ways to control Performance buttons in a patch, using a sequencer, or using a pulse from an LFO.

That looks like a good module if it can be used to turn the perform buttons on and off depending on the pattern whether I am running it in a DAW or not. I tried automating them using LMMS, but it just glitched everything out.

I demo-ed it. It's getting the notes from my DAW, but now it stopped unmuting the sampler channels (3 and 4 from the left) on the mixer. which is what I want it to do; mute and unmute on certain patterns

I suppose I could set up a sequencer to run simultaneously with the DAW if it doesn't like the drum trigger for some reason
