Request: Dreamsynth Oscillator for Voltage Modular
Request: Dreamsynth Oscillator for Voltage Modular
I've been having a lot of fun with the Dreamsynth VST. Perhaps CA can create a module for Voltage Modular based on the Dreamsynth oscillator section? I'd love to be able to use the Dreamsynth oscillator with different filter modules than the model incorporated in the VST, and to run multiple instances of the oscillator with separate filters and envelopes.
Re: Request: Dreamsynth Oscillator for Voltage Modular
Have you tried inserting Dreamsynth into VM's Plug-in Host or Mini Plug-in Host? I don't have Dreamsynth, but if you can open it up so the oscillators go straight through you should be able to use them as sound sources shaped by VM's modules.
Re: Request: Dreamsynth Oscillator for Voltage Modular
While you can set the 2nd & 3rd oscillators to bypass the filter, you are still running the rest of the audio through the full signal path of the rest of the Dreamsynth (and using all of the CPU required by the full plugin). A bit inelegant and convoluted for what I'd like to do. I would much rather just have the oscillator by itself that I can control with some CV inputs and output easily into my signal chain. Speaking of CV processing, my other new favorite toys are the Cyclic Oscillations modules.
I do love the plug-in host modules, which I primarily use for inserting VST effects into my rack.
The Vector oscillator modules (AirWave and AirStep) can perform similar functionality in terms wavetable synthesis, but are a different animal in terms of programming complexity and the included wavetable library.

Thanks for the explanation for why using either of the plug-in hosts would be less than satisfactory. If they take your suggestion, maybe they would give a discount on the Dreamsynth Oscillator module for those who bought the instrument.

for simple sine, square, etc. waves you can use any oscillato, and the crossfade module (and modulating pitch, etc, all can be done).
for single cycle waves forms there is PDO from Weevil (whith the added benifits of course Phase Distortion), the wavetable oscillator, also by Weevil.
for single cycle wave forms (again) there is also WF-Osc from Gargoyle (also a part of the very inexpensive and great bundle), has unison, is polyphonic, PDO isn't polyphonic. can add sub oscillator.. some other things... from the developer himself;
"what WF-Osc basically does is take any size waveform (up to 16kb) and resamples it to 2048 samples (using linear interpolation) and then creates a waveform for each octave using fft/ifft to bandlimit up to Nyquist. After that it basically is a wavetable oscillator, the same as many others"
for PCM samples, well.... i don't know how DreamSynth DS-1 does it, i own it buy the way, great synth, especially with MPE.
it seems, can be wrong PCM samples, or not tuned to key, the increase pitch, by playing faster, the looped ones. some react sometimes differently, they are specially build for this purpose i guess.
if am wrong well..
but the Dreamsynth DS-1 Oscillato can be build with, there are one shot sampler players, other sampler players, Voltage Modular.
the crossfade is great, do you want more; well Fusion of Unfiltered Audio, the mixer from LION, or Wave Mixer of Andrew Macaulay.
syncing, depends on the oscillator, the LFO pitch, well that is easy. also pan and level.
more work, but great results it can give, of course.
but as a whole, a workflow really matters, and how all is adapted to eachother, Dreamsynth DS-1 is quite a performer.
so, it can be done, in VM, with some more work, i repeat, and sometimes a limitation, or sometimes it can expands it!
