There's a danger of this becoming a parody of a Four Yorkshiremen Monty Python sketch but I'll try and avoid that even though I'm a Yorkshireman of a certain age.

The pace of change in society and technology has accelerated enormously since the early 20th century and each person has a unique perspective.

I was actually first in love in the Summer of Love and watched the moon landing a couple of years later on a black and white TV driven by valves (tubes in the US). It was a time of hope and transformation.

But you were lucky. :D

I'm guessing that the tired arguments about thermionic versus solid-state devices were more or less over by your time. Many people insisted that transistors were cold and sterile in much the same way that some talk about digital audio today.

And you probably didn't have to argue with anyone about whether synthesizers could actually be classified as musical instruments.

And I'm pretty sure you never had to program in COBOL by writing on paper sheets that got sent off in the post for someone to convert into punched cards!

Though I'm not sure you are right about youngsters today not having the opportunity to get down to the metal with computing technology like we did. Although there's little point in programming in anything lower-level than C, the kids of today do have access to things like the Raspberry Pi and Ardunio.
