Template patches using 'Gate Out Single' to General Envelope Generator.

Firstly I have to say this is a brilliant emulation of the original Korg synthesiser and I'm having fun playing and experimenting with it.
Whilst trying to better understand the 'Gate Out Single' and 'Trg Out Mult' jacks on the synth I came across a few patches which at first I thought were incomplete patches but have since surmised they are partly set up for potential use of the General Envelope Generator, here are five discovered so far:

Badly Tuned Bells
Balancing Act
Bowed Glass Pad
Clavish Keys
Crystal Pad

From what I've learned, in order for the two jacks to have any effect - when they are connected to the GEG that is - there should be a cable connected to any viable input from any of the 3 out jacks that come from it. In the patches I mention there aren't any such connections. Are these unfinished patches or am I missing something?

Additionally where there are complete patches which utilise the Gate Out, Trg Out and GEG outs, in some cases I'm struggling to hear what they are actually doing, I can sometimes hear an effect where resonators are modulated by them, although on many other patches I can't really tell what's going on.

Hope I haven't baffled anyone with this post.

There is quite an in-depth description of what the Gate and Trigger signals do in the manual.

You can use the outputs as regular control voltages in patches; there's no reason to restrict them to just triggering envelope generators.

One application described in the manual is to use the Gate Out Var signal to add layers when a certain minimum number of keys are held simultaneously:

Keyboard Gate Select and Gate Out jack- This one is very unique - it sends a shorting switch signal dependent upon the setting of the Kbd Gate Select switch and the number of keys currently held.

Keyboard Gate Select settings 2-5- Shorting switch signal is sent only when the corresponding number of keys is currently held.

For example, if the Keyboard Gate Select is set to 3, three notes are simultaneously played, a shorting switch signal is sent as long as three or more notes are currently held. If only one or two notes are currently held, no shorting switch signal is sent.

If you're like us, you're probably wondering, "what the heck would I use that for?" We believe the intention of this "numeric" shorting switch was to connect it to Signal Mixer External Level Control CV inputs in order to control the number of synth layers directly from the keyboard - sort of a 1977 version of bringing in additional layers with velocity.

Hello utdgrant. Before asking the question I had already read that part of the manual and I understand what they do. However, that section of the manual does not answer my questions really, which to summarise again: are the patches I've listed template patches, are they incomplete for a reason? In some patches I also cannot make out what they are doing when they are utilised.
Perhaps I should list those other patches for further study.

Yup. Looks like the GEG is set to trigger with GATE OUT SINGLE, but none of the outputs of GEG are used.

Balancing Act

Ditto.

Bowed Glass Pad

Ditto. (Although GATE OUT SINGLE is used to trigger the S&H module in this case.)

Clavish Keys

Ditto.

Crystal Pad

Ditto.

Pure speculation on my part, but I could imagine that these patches were created by using some other patch as a starting point because it was close enough to the idea you had in mind. The original source patch may have used one of the GEG outputs to achieve some effect, but this wasn't needed in the new, derived patch. It's understandable in these circumstances to just disconnect the GEG output jack and to forget about tidying up the trigger input connection. When you hit the "NEW" button, all patch cables are removed, but you're also back to square one with each of the voice modules.

As I say, though, pure speculation on my part.

I'm inclined to agree, they could be redundant cables from other patches. They don't cause any issues to the patches in question being there or not.
