Sync the mini sequencer in Logic

I've got Eight Voice in a track, and I set up a sequence that plays just fine from the internal transport. In Sync mode, the sequencer correctly detects the master tempo, but Logic's transport doesn't control the sequencer. Is KEYB GATE the only way to start and stop the sequencer apart from clicking the sequencer's own transport controls?
