Just as an update, VM still crashes at startup for Reason 10.2 that was just released few hours ago.

Unfortunately, this problem is not an easy fix. Luckily, this only affects Reason on Windows. It is fine on the Mac.

Believe it or not - it is not a bug in Voltage Modular, but is actually an unhappy coincidence between the Java engine and Reason's exception averse bad plugin detection logic.

Java sends out exceptions or warnings that something is not right or available. It sends them out for things like checking for certain features on the processor. Normally, programmers handle exceptions like these and its standard procedure. Voltage Modular won't let the exception propagate up to the host/DAW. But Reason installs a global exception handler that gets alerted when any exception is sent...even exceptions that are handled in the plugin. We tried trying to trick Reason into thinking it wasn't a bad exception and it seemed to work, but Reason would just quit without any warning randomly. So even though, we got it working better, the occasional random termination of Reason was not good enough. Perhaps, there is a way to turn off this global exception handler, but we could not figure it out.

So for now, Voltage Modular is not compatible with Reason On Windows. (Reason on OSX works fine with Voltage Modular)

We can thank buggy plugins for this, I guess. )=

Our solution in the future will be to make some sort of bridge that works seamlessly on Reason. Sorry for the bad news on this issue.

Thanks for the info! Have you tried talking with Propellerhead about this? Maybe they can make some sort of exception and disable that mechanism when it detects it's VM that triggers it? With all the CV cabling in Reason it's a great platform to run modular instruments & FX in :)

Well, for now I'm using it in Live until you also address the high-DPI issue :)

We have not talked to Propellerhead about this. I will send them an explanation of the problem on Windows and see if there is anything they can do. To help with this problem, feel free to add your own support request on Propellerhead. It helps.

In regards to the graphics working better with high DPI, we made some improvements in 1.0.5 due out today or tomorrow. Its not lightning fast on all computers...but it won't lag from our experiments. I think you should notice an improvement, at the very least. Let us know what you find on the thread about HD performance.
