Euclidean sequencer easy to use.

Post by rfj »

I’m intrigued by this Euclidean thing. The examples of euclidean generative rhytmns and sequencing I’ve heard sounds interesting but when I tried to use an euclidean sequencer I can’t understand noghing about it. Maybe the documentation is badly written but honestly I wish there where an EASY euclidean sequencer where you simply press play and it do the euclidean thing without the need of a degree in Maths to figure out the task....

Just press play and teak! (and you get two of them)

I'll give it a try. There's no way I can understand how it's supposed to work this one I puchased https://store.cherryaudio.com/modules/uquence-sequencer

One big problem with some modules is that they are DIFFICULT AS HELL of understand the way the are supposed to work. Developers should provide a better documentation in some cases and even upload some demonstration videos in Youtube. There's no point in purchasing a module you'll be unable to use because there's no a good AND CLEAR explanation WITH EXAMPLES of the way they work. The documentation in Sonibiosis Uquence euclidean sequencer is a complete nonsense to me. It gives a somere explanation of what controls are but don't give a clue about how to use them!!!. You can't sell a module whose documentation don't explain WELL AND CLEAR the way to use it.

the documentation in uQuence is everything but a mess. one needs 2 experiment. it is not that hard to get some results from it. and there is a video featurin uqUENCE on YT from another guy, not the dev..

There is some help https://sonobiosis.webnode.se/uquence/ to be honest that's about as much as normal (I have seen a lot less om Eurorack modules!)
Just looking at it (I haven't tried it) it seems to be a fairly strait forward Euclidian sequencer, they all work pretty much the same way so you can probably get the theory behind it from any YT video on Euclidian sequencers.

here's a vid with visible cables!

if you're looking for support on this module, then maybe the manufacturer subforum here on cherry audio might be the right place.
be sure to take a screenshot and post it in your thread so we can see what you're doing right, and make better suggestions to you.
I don't have that module, but when you've posted in that subforum (with a picture), if you don't get replies, PM me here on these forums and we'll figure it out together.

cheers!

Maybe euclidean sequencing and that kind of esoteric stuff is too much for me. The risk of modular synths IMO is that there are so much possibilities that sometimes you spent most of the time experimienting and trying things rather than doing actual music. Maybe I should keep things simple or I will start losing my marbles.... It,s a shame I purchased many modules I’m afraid I have no clue about of how actually use them.

The point here is that I own a hardware analog semimodular (Behringer Neutron) and I must say that VM sounds as analog as the real hardware. This is what I like most about VM. For me it's like having a real hardware analog synth inside my computer. Maybe I should concentrate in seeing it as a small constrained Doepfer System 100 mini rather than as a gargantuan Moog 55 mega system......

I bought 150 modules, but really only have been using the first 22 that came with nucleus. I wanted to make sure that I understood those guys before moving on to something else. Only recently have I been experimenting with the octagon sequencer, since I was having so much fun with the 8 step sequencer, while figuring out everything else.

If you don't understand the 22 in the nucleus bundle, you may not understand some big ideas that makes using other things easier. That said, euclidean doesn't seem that hard - open up your DAW and use the free hornet hatefish rhygenerator one - figure out how that works. it doesn't have great directions either, but go on youtube and see how someone uses it (2 tracks in your DAW, if I remember right)

I've been checking for sales on the neutron for about 8 months now - can't wait to get one!
