Open a permanent gate?

I'm new to Voltage Modular, so forgive me if this is an obvious question.

Is there a way to open a gate programmatically that will stay open until the end of the song? I'm trying to trigger some max-sustain envelopes at specific points. I know I can count clock cycles or other gates/triggers, but the only modules I see throw triggers when... uhhh... triggered. What I need is a gate or CV signal that will stay open once triggered.

I'm using VM in my DAW, and I know there is a Play gate that stays open, but it starts at the beginning of the song rather than at a position that I want. I'm looking for a solution/module that works within VM rather than a signal from the DAW so that it will continue to work in the standalone version.

use the DC source?

a gate signal is a flat signal, with a certain voltage. it depends on modules, when they react to the gate, and settings.

trigger it with remote control?

perhaps there is a better solution...

Hi,

Welcome!

That depends on what modules you have. . .
use your oscilloscope to check if your signals are coming through while you test

I think the perfect module for this is 8x1 (or 1x8) switch, which is part of the core bundle.
reduce the number of steps to 2 (one for on, one for off)
have dc source module set to 5v on one step ("on"), nothing connected to the other ("off")
use the step trigger to move the switch to the next step (the "on" position)

if you have nucleus. . .
use your eight step sequencer
set no of steps to 2
set one of the sliders all the way up (so it sends 5v when this step is active) - this is "on"
trigger your seq to open by setting it to ext clk (external clock) - your one time trigger will give it one clock pulse and send seq to the next stop/open/on position

also, MIDI file player/MIDI filter/MIDI to cv

oscilloscope is your friend
Cheers!

Thank you both so much!
I do have Nucleus, but the 8x1 switch looks like a cleaner solution, and is working just fine. I didn't even know about the DC source until I went hunting for it based on your answers.

In hindsight, this was a really simple newbie question so thanks again for answering it.
