New releases: Probably 1-2-16 and Probably Bundle

Post by honki-bobo »

Is it a sequencer? Is it a switch? No - it's Probably 1-2-16 !

Probably 1-2-16 - a 16-step sequencer / 1x16 switch hybrid on steroids

Combine the best features of a 16-step sequencer with those of a 1x16 switch, throw in a few extras and there you have it: Probably 1-2-16 is a 16-step sequencer that lets you route a signal to one of 16 outputs. 6 different playback modes plus the ability of manual intervention will leave nothing to be desired.

Global features

All input jacks are black and all output jacks are silver for instant recognition.

Trigger Input

A step can be triggered by external CV through the trigger input jack (voltage >= 2.5V) or manually with the trigger button

Mode

Select the playback mode

[*] Reverse: Playback starts from the last active output and goes down to 1, then starts again at the last active output
[*] Forward (default): Starts at output 1, goes up to the last active output and starts again at 1
[*] Random: Selects a random output depending on distribution settings
[*] Ping Pong Exclusive: Starts at output 1, goes up to last active output, then goes down again, e.g. with 4 active outputs, playback order would be 1-2-3-4-3-2-1-2-3-4-3-2...
[*] Ping Pong Inclusive: Starts at output 1, goes up to last active output, then starts at last active output and goes down to 1 again, e.g. with 4 active outputs, playback order would be 1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1-1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1...
[*] CV: Selects an output by incoming step CV depending on distribution settings

Reset Input

Send a reset signal through the CV input jack (voltage >= 2.5V) or manually with the reset button. It has the same reset behavior as Cherry Audio's 8-Step Sequencer, i.e. if a reset signal is received (either through the input jack or the button) the sequence will restart with the next trigger. A reset will have no effect in CV or in Random mode.

Step CV

When playback mode is set to CV, you can control the "playback position" through this jack. It expects a voltage between 0V and 5V (like Cherry Audio's 8x1 Switch). By default (all distribution values are equal) the voltage at which a transition from output n to output n+1 happens, is n*5V/(number of active outputs). This behavior can be changed with the distribution knobs.

Offset

Add an offset voltage to the CV Input through the input jack and with the knob.

Gate

When the gate button (the red one) of an output is activated, a trigger and a gate signal will be generated when the output gets selected. When the gate input jack is empty the gate time can be set in a range of 2 to 8192 ms using the knob. When the gate input jack is connected, the gate time is controlled by pitch CV following the 1 V/octave rule. The gate will be opened for the duration of a single cycle at the corresponding pitch, where a 1/16th note at 120 BPM equals about -3.03135971V. This allows for tempo-synced gating. When gate length is controlled by pitch CV the gate time knob will set the duration of the gate in % relative to the received pitch, i.e. if a pitch for a 1/16th note is received, a value of 50% will open the gate for the duration of a 1/32nd note. At 100%, two consecutive gates will be considered "legato", i.e. the gate will stay open.

CV In

Main CV input that gets routed to one of the 16 outputs.

Trigger

When the gate button (the red one) of an output is activated, a trigger and a gate signal will be generated when the output gets selected.

CV Outputs

Output CV

Set the CV offset for each step with the CV knob. The voltage ranges from -5V to 5V.

Distribution

This setting is only enabled in Random and CV playback mode and it is a relative setting rather than an absolute one. If all distribution values are equal then all steps are equally distributed. i.e equally probable. In Random mode, If one distribution value is twice the value of that of all other outputs then that one will be twice as probable. The same goes for CV mode, if one distribution value is twice the value of that of all other outputs then the range at which that output will be selected will be twice as big. An example: If you have 4 outputs activated, the first 3 distributions are set to 50% (default) and the fourth is set to 100% then the resulting probabilities will be 20% for the first 3 and 40% for the fourth output. When in CV mode, a Step CV from 0V (incl) to 1V (excl) will select output 1, 1V to 2V output 2, 2V to 3V output 3 and 3V to 5V output 4.

Active Button

With the Active button you can determine the number of steps in your sequence. When an Active button is toggled off, that output and all after it are deactivated. When it is turned on, that output and all outputs from 1 up to that one will get activated.

Gate Button

Determines whether gate and trigger signals should be generated when that output gets selected.

Select Button

Selects the output. Manual selection works in all playback modes and overrides the automatically selected output. Triggered playback will continue from the manually selected output when the button is released.
