Bowed Violin Preset

My first go at simulating an acoustic instrument. I was trying for a violin but this can serve as cello + bowed double bass if you monkey with the frequency.

It sounds best if you wait for the Release to finish before hitting the next note, otherwise you get a clip. This would work OK with a polyphonic setup of some kind I assume.

Hi Screenslave,

Thanks for sharing your preset.

Very interesting to see someone else tackling this problem.

I spent some time last April trying to create a violin/viola & cello patch in VCV Rack - with limited success I have to say!

Very difficult to get a consistent sound across a couple of octaves.

Some very useful articles on SoundOnSound magazine website though.

Sound on Sound yeah I went through their articles to try to understand what was requires. They show a multi-band pass filter which I don't have so I chained together 6 standard Cherry Audio filters all set to different frequency cutoffs. Crude but it kinda works. I used PSP Spectra to try to visualise the curve.

Yeah, I noticed your 6 + 2 filters. :)

CA haven't done a fixed filter module, so far I think, but the excellent Benard has one in the store (
15 bandpass filters in parallel
) if you have $15.00 to spare.

I started with one on VCV Rack but eventually, after much knob twiddling, cheated & just used 2 x filters plus a formant filter. That's about as far as I could get at the time.
