Patrick, I had the same problems as you have described.
I contacted Studio One and Cherry Audio but was still not given a working answer.
The answer:
Setup CR-78 as an instrument not a track.
Then setup an audio track with CR-78 as the source.
Record then during playback turn off the instrument ...
